Fertilizer Banding In Strip-Till: Balancing The Do's & Don'ts - Tony Vyn - NSTC 2014 Presentation - MP3 Download

$19.95

Product Details

Optimizing nutrient rates and placement for corn and soybean production with strip-tillage has been too much of a guessing game for too long, says Purdue University tillage specialist Tony Vyn. While nearly all commercial strip-till units have the capability of deep-banding, shallow-banding or near-surface zone banding of liquid or dry fertilizers, there has been considerable misinformation on how strip-till supposedly changes optimal crop-nutrient rates. In addition, there are misconceptions regarding the crop safety factor for various nitrogen and potassium fertilizer sources banded at various rates or depths relative to the seed furrow.

Vyn will address that while there are strong environmental reasons to band everything below the surface, there are still questions about whether some nutrients should be broadcast applied. This session will provide practical answers on what we know about both crop-safe and nutrient-efficient fertilizer management in strip-till systems, and offer some do’s and don’ts on the road to strip-till happiness.
