[Video] Nutrient Stratification’s Yield Impact & the Promise of Strip-Till as a Solution

Independent farm researcher Marion Calmer (a Lessiter Ag Media 4-time ‘Presenter of the Year’) revisits a game- changing vertical nutrient stratification study he started in 2022 that shows new promise for strip-tillage. Calmer’s 2023 plot update examines how strip-till can minimize nutrient stratification — defined as an uneven level of nutrients at various depths within the soil profile — while maximizing yield.

Learn why Calmer, a longtime no-tiller and No-Till Innovator of the Year Alum from Alpha, Ill., is examining deep banding of phosphorus and potassium with a strip-till toolbar as a solution to farmers’ ongoing struggles with nutrient stratification. This year marks Calmer’s first return to producing strip-till corn since 1995 (when he made the move to 15-inch no-tillage).

You’ll Learn: Why vertical stratification is more devastating than horizontal variability and what on-farm research indicates as a solution for this yield-robbing problem.
