A trio of strip-tillers in Iowa are making big strides in their quest to improve water quality and prove that conservation practices are profitable and scalable. 

Jeff Herrold grows corn and soybeans across 3,500 acres, 70% of which are irrigated, near Wanatah, Ind., just 25 miles south of Lake Michigan. 

I spoke with Quint Pottinger, a young farmer from New Haven, Ky., the other day about some gutsy changes he made on his farm in 2025-2026.
