Irish Farmer Shares Strip-Till Journey

County Kildare, Ireland, farmer Michael Grace details his strip-till experience in the latest Tillage Edge podcast. He admits that the transition to strip-till came with a reduction in yields at first, but he has since rebounded. “For the past 7-8 years, I am definitely on par with the average yields in the area,” he says.


Are You Strip-Tilling Soybeans?

We’ll soon be publishing the full results from our 10th annual Strip-Till Farmer Benchmark Study. One of the key takeaways is that strip-till soybean acreage numbers in 2022 were higher than we’ve ever seen. Farmers were asked if they strip-till soybeans in the Strip-Till Farmer email discussion group. The responses are pouring in! Here’s one from Matthew Kruse: “I liked the idea of strip-tilling soybeans to help warm the soil and get an earlier start, but I couldn’t justify the higher cost of adding more fertilizer. Perhaps if fertilizer costs continue to move lower it will make more sense in the future.

Young Strip-Tiller Featured in Conservation Ag Update

Check out the latest episode of Conservation Ag Update! Blakely, Ga., strip-tiller Caleb Traugh shares pictures from his recent field day, showcasing hundreds of research plots. Traugh is making a name for himself in the strip-till world. He placed 2nd in the 2021 NCGA Georgia Corn Yield Contest, which is an amazing accomplishment considering he didn’t grow up on a farm or study agriculture in college.
