Exploring Strip-Till Nitrogen Placement for Safety & Yield
The RealAgriculture team is talking strip-till in the latest episode of Corn School. Ben Rosser, OMAFRA corn specialist, shares what he’s learning about nitrogen (N) placement from the University of Guelph’s strip-till research plots. He notes that shallow banding of fertilizer shows the highest level of crop injury with leaf burn, late-emerging plants and a high degree of variability.
Pairing Strip-Till with Cutting-Edge Irrigation Technology
2025 Strip-Till Innovator Ray Flickner gives us a glimpse at his subsurface drip irrigation system and explains how it’s helping him use 40% less water than the county average in Moundridge, Kan. Flickner also explains how the technology changed his approach to strip-till.
What the Latest Research Says About Corn & Soybean Planting Depth
What’s the best planting depth for corn and soybeans? PTI Farm Manager Jason Webster (who was the 2023 National Strip-Tillage Conference Most Outstanding Speaker Award recipient) checks in with the latest research at Precision Planting’s PTI Farm.
‘Fingers Crossed’ on Strip-Till Corn-on-Corn
Lance (@PetersenFarms) shared this video on X of a strip-tilled corn-on-corn field in east central, Minn. “Fingers crossed we can get this corn-on-corn spring strip-till thing to work out and avoid an epic disaster,” he says. Lance says dry fertilizer was applied in a RZB (root zone banding) pass before the strips were made.
