Farmers got an up-close look at 11 different toolbars during the Iowa State Extension Strip-Till Field Day, Wed., July 30, ahead of the 2025 National Strip-Tillage Conference.
Representatives from Kuhn Krause, Dawn, Environmental Tillage Systems, Schlagel, Zimmerman, Lynx, LandLuvr, Yetter, Black Eagle Ag and Unverferth/Orthman gave presentations on their equipment.
Levi Powell, program manager, Iowa State ag engineering department, highlighted the keys to success with strip-till during a lunch presentation. We caught up with Powell for some top takeaways from his presentation and a look at why strip-till is becoming increasingly popular in the region.
“We see strip-till growing in a lot of different ‘hot pockets,’” Powell says. “You’ll get a couple guys that start into it, and their neighbors see it being successful for them. They might do some custom work for those neighbors, and it just grows from there. We’re getting more and more questions about it every year.”
