Some conventional peanut production systems may require as many as nine tillage operations, notes Baldwin. A strip-till system, on the other hand, requires only one to two operations.
The Feikema family was so convinced the switch was the best move for their farm, they sold their tillage equipment that same year and by 2018 they were utilizing either strip-till or no-till on 100% of their acres except for special circumstances.
“Does strip-cropping increase corn yield? It sure does,” says Jason Webster, Precision Technology Institute (PTI) Farm manager. “Last year we were seeing 40-50 bushel yield gains in our strip-cropping.
