Driving past local cornfields on my way to work nearly every day, I’ve see a wide range of plant colors and sizes this year, from head-high, dark-green stands to tiny, pale plants, drowning in excessive moisture.

Some of the storms and extremely high winds this spring have caused significant stalk breakage in some corn fields.

Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri) continues to march across Kentucky. Initially this weed was thought to be present primarily in the west end of the state (Purchase region), but sightings have been reported within several Kentucky counties that border Tennessee and the lower Ohio River in the past few years.

Driving through Wisconsin at the end of September, all was still relatively quiet in the cornfields that I passed.
