Cover cropping continues to be a hot topic for strip-tillers, as farmers look to capitalize on organic nutrients and increase soil health.

But choosing the right varieties, seeding methods and timing applications are considerations strip-tillers need to take into account when integrating cover crops to achieve the best results.

Ongoing experimentation is encouraged and something Clare, Ill., farmer Trent Sanderson has done with cover crops in his family’s strip-till operation since 2012.

Seeding a variety of mixes, including cereal rye, radishes and red clover, Trent has also experimented with aerial and interseeding applications.

In today’s Strip-Till Farmer podcast, brought to you by Blu-Jet, we welcome Trent to share his lessons learned with integrating cover crops in strip-till, to include the good, the bad and the ugly.
