Strip-Till Farmer editors encounter a variety of articles, social media posts, podcasts and videos that offer a unique look at the grower's world from the lofty digital realm. Here is our favorite content from the past week from across the web:

Empowering Your Strip-Tilled Soils to Produce More

Gaston, Ind., farmer Jason Mauck (@Jasonmauck1) is always keeping his followers up to date on the latest with his innovative on-farm trials. In this video, he shares how he’s using cover crops to help shave inputs and completely eliminate the chance of weed growth. “Instead of chasing the carrot to maximize yield we need to look at all our inputs and think can I grow it myself? Can I empower the soil to produce more?"

The Hidden Costs of Extra Tillage Passes

In this Univ. of Illinois Farmdoc Daily webinar, Gary Schnitkey and Laura Gentry dive into the economics of different tillage practices using data from the Precision Conservation Management (PCM) program. Topics include machinery cost trends over the past decade, detailed analysis of no-till, strip-till and multi-pass systems, yield and profitability impacts by Soil Productivity Rating (SPR) and decision-making tips for 2025-2026 with high input costs and lower grain prices.

Why Strip-Till is the Future of Farming

Jared Fender, 2025 Strip-Till Conference speaker and researcher with the Univ. of Illinois, joins the A Penny For Your Thoughts Podcast to discuss why strip-till makes sense. “With strip-till, you’re only focusing on where that plant is going to be,” Fender says.

Illinois Announces Grant for Strip-Till Practices

The Illinois Department of Agriculture is offering a $35 grant for every acre that’s strip-tilled or no-tilled this fall. “Strip-till practices improve soil health, reduce erosion and runoff and lower long-term input costs,” department director Jerry Costello II says. “We appreciate the state and federal partnerships that bring grant funding to encourage conservation of Illinois’ fertile farmland.”
