#Plant25 Comes with a Few Challenges for Strip-Tiller
Onarga, Ill., strip-tiller Greg Chandler started planting on his strips April 23, after receiving about an inch of rain on Easter weekend. Chandler details some of the challenges he’s dealing with in this FarmWeekNow.com feature. “Waterhemp is our No. 1 problem in the soybean fields and of course that doesn’t come until later in the summer with the heat,” he says. “We’re working with some rye cover crops to try to help with that. And then of course all of the politics around the tariffs and that kind of stuff doesn’t help anything. It’s kind of nice to be able to sit in a corn planter once in a while and block all the outside noise out.”
Klosterman Juggles Strip-Till Operation & Agribusiness Company
Carson Klosterman has made a name for himself in the strip-till world, both as a farmer and owner of a strip-till equipment company (StripTillForYou.com). Read more about the South Dakota strip-tiller’s origin story and journey in this feature from Farm & Ranch Guide.
Strip-Till Innovator Battles Wet Conditions in Southern Indiana
Otwell, Ind., strip-tiller Chris Perkins is keeping his followers updated on his #Plant25 progress on X (@BandedAgLLC). Perkins says his area has gotten over 24 inches of rain for the year, including 13.6 inches since March 15. “If it was middle of June, I would be less concerned. Not good,” he says. When asked if the conditions will change his cropping plans for the year, Perkins says, “Not a bit. Even more important to strip-till (in the spring) from the data we’ve seen and compiled over the years.”
