Strip-Tiller Focuses on Sidedressing Corn, Spraying Soybeans & Sunflowers

Wyndmere, N.D, Strip-tiller Carson Klosterman updates the Farm & Ranch Guide audience on his latest growing season adventures. He’s in the process of sidedressing nitrogen (N) and spraying soybeans and sunflowers. “With the strip-till, we only have half of our N put out in the fall, so we have to do some sort of a pass to get the rest of it on,” Klosterman says. “Last week, we got started with the sidedressing and we should get that finished up here in the next day or so.”

Can Just a Little Bit of Tillage Go a Long Way?

In this YouTube Short, the Freedom Farmers group argues that while no-till is great, sometimes the soil needs a reset. They say that just a little bit of tillage with compost and gypsum can be the game-changer. Check out the video and decide for yourselves.

Comparing Strip-Tilled Soybeans With & Without Fall Fertilizer

2024 Strip-Till Innovator Chris Perkins checks in (@BandedAgLLC on X) with a strip-tilled soybean trial on his Otwell, Ind., farm. One side of the field received a fall fertilizer application, and the other side did not. “Just maybe I can finally get a yield response out of fall fertilizer strip without a towering bean that just grows tall,” Perkins says.
