Strip-Till Farmer editors encounter a variety of articles, social media posts, podcasts and videos that offer a unique look at the grower's world from the lofty digital realm. Here is our favorite content from the past week from across the web:

Strip-Tiller Battles Historic Flooding After Years of Drought

Gene Gully, who strip-tills cotton and wheat in McCulloch County, Texas, is among the many farmers dealing with flooding after a historic Independence Day rainfall event. For some farmers in the area, the heavy rain is a welcome sight after years of drought. “It all depends on where the water ran,” says Reagan Noland, extension agronomist, San Angelo. “Some areas had cotton buried under displaced soil and others had cotton flattened by the massive volumes of running water.” “We’ve got wheat straw standing out there, root mass holding the dirt together,” Gully says. “Water went through them and over them in a few places but not any big blowouts. We’re set up to make a good crop.”

Iowa Conservation Farmers of the Year Highlight Strip-Till Practices

Strip-till is in the local news spotlight, as Des Moines-based KCCI TV features Maxwell Farms, the recipient of the 2024 Iowa Conservation Farmers of the Year award. The Maxwell Farms crew takes us inside their system, which includes 60-inch twin-row corn, strip-till, no-till, on-farm composting and more!

Strip-Tilled Crops Holding Up in Wet Summer

Clark, S.D., strip-tiller Casey Briggs says his crops are looking solid despite getting almost 20 inches of rain over the last month and a half. “We’ve been trying to keep ourselves busy with shop work,” Briggs says. “Currently, we are rebuilding our strip-till bar and doing various other small projects. It’s just too muddy to do much else. I sure wish we could share the wealth of rain with folks who need it.”

Strip-Till Conference Speaker Marion Calmer Celebrates Wedding

“Hearts were a-breaking” across the no-till and strip-till world last weekend, as Marion and Charla Calmer officially tied the knot at Calmer’s homestead on Alpha, Ill. True to form, the No-Till Farmer Innovator alum and 2024 National Strip-Tillage Conference speaker had a few surprises for his guests (and his new bride), including a staged “fall into the drink” on his way to exchanging nuptials on their “Calmer Waters” boat. Cheers to the Calmers on their pre-harvest honeymoon!
