Strip-Till & Herbicide in One Pass
We paid a visit to 2025 Strip-Till Innovator Ray Flickner in Moundridge, Kan., last week. Ray gave us a look at his first toolbar — an Orthman 1tRIPr (which is also for sale if you’re interested!) — and explains how he retrofitted it to also apply herbicide in one pass.
We had a blast visiting with Ray and Ryan Flickner in Moundridge, Kan. In this clip, Ray, the 2025 Strip-Till Innovator, shows how he used his first toolbar to also apply herbicide. Ray will share more at the 2025 National Strip-Tillage Conference.

Fifth-Generation Farmer Reflects on 30 Years of Strip-Till
The Swartz family has been strip-tilling for 30 years, if not longer, in Emington, Ill. Fifth-generation farmer Craig Swartz reflects on his family’s strip-till journey and explores what’s ahead in this AgriNews feature. “We continue to try to improve the system because with strip-till corn it saves so much on labor, fuel and time that it’s just changed our operation in so many ways,” Swartz says. “I’m a single parent, so strip-till is great. I don’t have to worry about extra guys. It’s fast for me, and I can make it to ball games and do other stuff, and it’s just less headaches.”
Custom Strip-Tiller Notices Increased Demand for Equipment
Wyndmere, N.D., strip-tiller Carson Klosterman updates his #Plant25 progress in this Farm & Ranch Guide article. With mostly dry conditions this spring, Klosterman was able to plant sugarbeets on April 9 before some much-needed rainfall. Klosterman, who runs a custom strip-till business, says he’s also noticed an uptick in demand for strip-till assistance. “Usually, the phone is busy every day,” he says. “It seems like, between customers this past week with the rain and guys not getting into their field, there have been requests for some equipment. There have been guys up here looking at some stuff and making sales. Some bought strip-fresheners to run over their fall-made strips to help condition the strips and dry them out.”
Central Illinois Farmer Pleasantly Surprised by Spring Strip-Till Success
Central Illinois farmer Wes Farms checks in with an update on his #Plant25 action. He normally makes strips on his continuous corn acres in the fall, but because the residue was too thick, he waited until the spring this year. Wes explains in this YouTube video why it worked out well!
Univ. of Illinois Researcher Focuses on Soybean Cyst Nematodes
Soybean cyst nematodes may be interfering with your soybean profitability by reducing your yield. So why can’t farmers find a way to just kill them? One researcher at Univ. of Illinois is working to answer that question. Nematologist Nate Schroeder, who has several research projects in his lab that are designed to make life easier for soybean farmers, is focusing on nematodes in soybeans, corn and cover crop fields.
