It looks like the future for strip-till is so bright, you need shades. Six-year-old Wyatt got creative with his toys over Thanksgiving (see photo above) and built his first strip-till unit!
"He built a 'strip-till bar just like Dad's,'" says his mom, Katie. "Gotta start them young on strip-tilling!"
Wyatt was clearly inspired by his dad Alex, who built a 6-row rig out of an old John Deere 7000 planter a few years ago, relocated the dry boxes and added Yetter row units.
"There have been a few challenges along the way, but overall, it works great and makes good strips on a budget," Alex says. "We can normally cover 40-50 acres a day in the fall."
Wyatt's parents have been strip-tilling corn for about 15 years. Some of the top benefits they've seen from strip-till include a better seedbed, improved nutrient efficiency, less labor and equipment.
