“Man, this Strip-Till Section just keeps getting bigger and bigger every year.” That was my first thought as I started flipping through the Farm Progress Show Official Program book while chugging coffee, shortly after arriving at the nation’s largest outdoor farm show.

Strip-Till Hall of Famer Bill Preller breaks down the advantages and limitations of coulters, knives and shanks, and the strip-till scenarios where they each make the most sense. 

While developing his own strip-till line, equipment maker learned some surprising things many strip-tillers should consider as they use major brands.

In this video, managing editor Noah Newman checks in with an update on the 2026 National Strip-Tillage Conference, which takes place Aug. 6-7 in Springfield, Ill. Newman catches up with Coolidge, Ariz., strip-tiller Robert Boyle, who explains why the conference is a must-attend for him every year. 

In the past, the idea of transitioning to strip-till with baby steps was almost unheard of, Andy Thompson says, and the unwritten strip-till code was to buy a rather complicated and expensive tool that was meant to replace all other tools previously used to perform everything needed for the crop. That’s no longer the case in 2026.
